A 13:42 on Friday 10/5, the WFD responded to Route 17 for a reported tractor trailer on its side. Responding units found an overseas container had separated from its transport vehicle. The truck was traveling northbound when the incident happened. The container started to roll over the jersey barrier and came into contact with the support pillar for a overhead sign which stopped it from totally rolling across the southbound lanes. The box did cause 3 vehicles traveling south to crash. There was 1 minor injury and the individual was transported to Valley Hospital. The truck remained on scene. Route 17 was totally shutdown southbound and northbound was reduced to one lane. Members of the WFD assisted the towing company, by using our Hearst Tool, in releasing the container box, which had wrapped itself around the sign pillar. Chief 630, Engines 631 & 632 and Rescue 642 remained on scene for over three hours while the cleanup operation went on.
